Review Board Now Available Pre-installed with Power Pack!

Review Board and Bitnami go way back. Since it became a part of the library in 2012, thousands of Bitnami users have turned to Review Board to take the pain out of the vitally important task of reviewing code before releasing it.

We are excited to announce that the Review Board stack just got even better with the release of the new Bitnami Review Board + Power Pack stack! In addition to all the great Review Board features we know and love, especially after their recent major update, the pre-installed Power Pack module adds new functionality in four areas:

PDF document review: When you're reviewing the code for that great new feature, it can be just as important to review the documentation that goes with it. With Power Pack you can upload and review PDF documents exported from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. Documents can be displayed in the browser without any plug-ins or extra software needed, and comments can be made for documents just like they are in your source code.

Management Reporting:  If you are wondering whether code review is being carried out efficiently and consistently across multiple developers and teams, Power Pack can help. Track workloads and get big-picture data on how well code reviews are working for your team with intuitive graphs, charts, and reports.

Github Enterprise & MS Team Foundation Server Integration: For anyone using these popular tools for managing source code within the secure confines of the enterprise data center, Power Pack makes it easy to integrate Review Board functionality. All you have to do is point Review Board to the URL of your Github or Team Foundation Server and connect with a login and password.

Enterprise Scalability: If your company scales into the thousands of engineers, it may become necessary to increase the number of servers running Review Board to maintain optimal speed and fault tolerance. With Power Pack you can move auxiliary data like SSH keys to the database instead of in the front-end server's file system, enabling you to scale up multiple servers as needed.

Interested in trying the new supercharged Bitnami Review Board + Power Pack stack? You can find local installers, virtual machines, and cloud images available at the Review Board + Power Pack stack page in Bitnami.

Check out Review Board’s new Version 2.5 on Bitnami!

Software engineers and managers the world over know the importance of having code review built into every step of the production process, and thousands of savvy developers at companies like Amazon and LinkedIn make that happen with Review Board. This popular web-based code review app removes the friction from checking each other’s code with features like side-by-side diffs and commenting for pre- and post-review commits. It enables dev teams to ship the highest quality software possible in the least amount of time, while learning from each other along the way!

Now, Review Board just got better with the announcement of their new version 2.5! With this latest release, the Review Board team makes even greater productivity possible with increased extensibility and improvements to mobile support and collaboration that were requested by their users. They also gave the visual design a great facelift!

Here’s a rundown of key improvements:
  • Mobile support: Important reviews don’t only happen between the hours of 9 and 5. Review Board 2.5 is mobile-friendly, so developers can contribute to important/urgent review even while they are not sitting at their desks
  • Expandable diff fragments: Instantly see more context for a comment - one click expands the diff right in the review.

  • Auto-versioning and diffing of file attachments, including images: Review Board will automatically track changes to file attachments. Simply upload your files, and everyone can see the changes side-by-side and comment on them like just like in the diff viewer.

  • Mute and Archive for review requests: You can now archive old review requests and mute any that don’t require your attention, allowing you to remove the clutter from your inbox and focus on what really matters.

  • Live HD Thumbnails: To view more of a large image, all you have to do is hover over the thumbnail.
  • API tokens: Third-party tools/services and custom scripts can now securely log in as a Review Board user. No need to give out passwords, and the access can be tightly restricted. This paves the way for future integrations with third-party automated code review services and tools.
  • Webhooks: Review Board 2.5 can notify other services like collaboration and CI tools of events. Now when you post or update a review request, it will already be in a format these tools understand.
Review Board 2.5 is available now in Bitnami! Enjoy a more seamless code review process in just a few clicks by deploying Review Board in the cloud, as a virtual machine, or with a local installer. You can even launch a one-hour demo in the cloud, absolutely free!

Review Board PowerPack for Code Review

The makers of Review Board have just released a new add-on product called Power Pack, which extends the capabilities of Review Board.

Review Board Power Pack

Review Board is an open-source code review tool that helps teams review each other's code to improve overall code quality. It makes it easy to scan and review diffs and images that are part of a change.

Power Pack extends Review Board by offering three key features:
  • PDF document review
  • GitHub Enterprise integration
  • Better scalability management

The document review extension brings the same powerful, lightweight review process to PDF files that developers have enjoyed for their source code. Documents are displayed right in the browser without a need for any plug-ins or extra software to be installed. Developers, product managers, documentation writers, legal and anyone else can share documents and comment on them easily and quickly, keeping all the comments and discussion in one place.

GitHub Enterprise is a popular tool used by enterprises to get the power of GitHub with the security of their own networks. With Power Pack, developers can perform code review against GitHub Enterprise repositories, taking advantage of time-saving features pull requests don't offer.

Power Pack also takes care of the harder parts of scaling Review Board across multiple servers, increasing performance for large installations.

Power Pack is licensed under a subscription model. It's priced at $8.33/month per user, which will also entitle you to all new features, fixes, and support. In the coming year, there are plans to include reporting and enhanced code review features, which will come at no additional cost.

As an exclusive benefit to Bitnami users, you can use referral code "BITNAMI" to get 10% off for the first year. That's only $7.50/month per user. Try Review Board today free with Bitnami, then check out Power Pack on the Review Board website.

Django 1.4.8 and 1.5.4 have been released to address a denial-of-service attack against Django's authentication framework. All users of Django are encouraged to upgrade immediately.

This security issue was reported through public channels and the Django team issued these security releases immediately, less than a week after the previous security fix announcement. More details can be found in the official Django announcement.

A complete list of fixes can be found in the Review Board release notes.

Our installers, virtual machine and cloud images for BitNami Django have already been updated. We will releasing an updated version for Review Board, Weblate and Pootle. We will also be removing older versions of the apps from existing cloud repositories such as Amazon and Azure, to prevent end users from inadvertently launching insecure versions of these apps.
